Dave Pasternack Contest
Winner
Congratulations to winner; we haven't officially, but we believe it might be Brent Csutoras.  He came in from behind and produced a lot of links from blogs and articles in the last hours.  This is an analogous strategy to the link and article review engine, however the difference is that these were spam.  I can safely presume that they are spam since almost all the links were put up very recently and they were removed immediately after the contest ended.
Dave Pasternack Contest Winner

In total, we were able to source 178 inbound links to the winning site; 137 were from WeirdAsiaNews.com alone!  All of the WeirdAsiaNews links no longer exist, however we were able to see what it looked like from search cache (here is a snapshot).  We suspect that all the pages in the WeirdAsiaNews website had the link David Pasternack in the Blogroll side-panel section.  Most of the other inbound links were in a variety of terms including several with "Dave Pasternack".
In summary, when you want to get short-term message out, it looks like this works.  This was a good demonstration that mass-scale link distribution does still work in a post google-bomb ("miserable failure") environment.  However it is indeed spam and will sustain ranking in time.  This is to be expected since most the links are now removed, however one might question if the link-spam will damage WeirdAsiaNews' such as their ability to assign link-value.

Dave Pasternack Sponsored
Here are a list of the advertisers for search term: Dave Pasternack.  Note that this snapshot was taken a few hours after the competition ended so that any comidian would be flushed out.  Surprisingly, there were just 8 sponsors, all appear to be SEO/SEM related except for one: Cafe Express, which is Dave Pasternacks storefront for selling Dave Pasternack promotional goods.  Very cleaver way for Dave to propell himself and make a buck or two off of this whole event.
We, RelevantAds, provided a sponsored listing as well.  It was "Will the real Dave Pasternack Please Stand Up, Please Stand Up".  We're always looking to get in touch with SEO Experts, webmasters, and bloggers so that we can give more exposure for our local business clients.  For more information, visit our website.
